Our Day at Children's Hospital...

Our day started by jumping in the car at 6:15 and heading off to Denver and Children's Hospital. We arrived about 30 min's before the testing was supposed to begin. Lucky for us we found a wagon and Parker got his complimentary ride into the hospital and up to the 7th floor and the Infusion Center.
Upon our arrival we were greeted to the center by the Hat Tree. The hats you see are yours for the taking, if you'd like one. They are donated by many people who make them for the children. At the base of the tree is a plastic storage container full of yarn and all you have to do is ask for needles to begin your knitting experience.
Now, if your not familiar with an Infusion Center it is where children with cancer or transplants, etc. go for their drugs to be administered or tests to be run. Needless to say it is a humbling experience and reality check.
As the mother of 3 children with heart defects and 1 guy with a cleft lip/palate I can tell you that I was humbled by this floor of the hospital. We all need the occasional reality check and I certainly got mine.

Our corner double bed room. We were fortunate that we had a room to ourself for the morning. Amazingly the entire floor was quiet when we arrived but after about 10 became more energized as people started arriving for their day of treatments or testing. We heard laughing, shouting, balls bouncing and gleeful squeels mixed in with the crying.
I.V. started and Leo in hand, Parker displays his UPC code and his sticker that he got at the admitting desk. Parker is awake, though not for long!, and waiting for the test to begin.

Now asleep and the testing progressing along just fine. Our nurse, Julie, came in 30 min. intervals to draw blood. He had blood drawn through the IV 9 times and also drugs administered. What a wonderful way to go through testing. Totally, completely and blissfully asleep.
Awake at last, testing over, but not necessarily happy, Parker got to pick from room service just what he wanted to eat for lunch. So Cheeseburger, french fries, fruit cup and brownie with Chocolate milk were the chef's speciality for my boy.
Hopefully we'll get the results of the test before the end of the week. We'll keep you posted!

I liked reading this post. Thank you for your comment on my crafts. The auction is a fundraiser for needy kids at the school where I work. It's fun because I always know the people who buy my things, and it goes to a good cause!
